Funding Opportunities for the Elon Community

The Center for Research on Global Engagement (CRGE) grants support high-quality research designed to  encourage innovative approaches that strengthen the linkages between knowledge and experience. We define global (domestic and international) engagement as an intentional integration of three critical foundational domains: learning/knowledge, skills/behaviors, and attitudes/dispositions (Vandermaas-Peeler, Ruelle & Peeples, 2020).CRGE grant proposals should be research-focused and have clear potential to contribute to knowledge about and/or practices related to (e.g., teaching and learning) global engagement.

In the 2023-2024 academic year, there are two types of funding opportunities:

 

 

Faculty Research Grants

What is it?	A grant to support the research process for scholarship on global engagement with a focus on student development
Who is eligible?	Full-time faculty Faculty/staff teams with full-time faculty as project leaders Faculty and faculty/staff teams whose projects have a focus on student development
What are some examples of funded projects?	A survey of Elon public health graduates to examine current perspectives on the skills and competencies most needed in today’s global health workforce A study of the identity development of international teachers in a Masters of Education program with an international education component A longitudinal study of the intercultural competence of students in the Elon DPT program with a global learning experience
What is the funding?	Up to $2,000

Other information	Please note that this grant cannot support conference travel or course development

Undergraduate Research Grants

What is it?	A grant to support the development of undergraduates’ global engagement as they conduct undergraduate research in global contexts
Who is eligible?	Students who are enrolled in 4998/4999 credit hours (what are these?) Students with full-time faculty mentors
What are some examples of funded projects?	Research on the development of a youth skills program in a South African community A study of the medicinal use of plants in rural communities in Haiti An ethnographic study of yoga traditions in South India An investigation of the role of music in cultural identity development
What is the funding?	Up to $1,000
When is the deadline?	Fall deadline: September 22, 2023 Spring deadline: March 8, 2024
