3D printing FAQs

Is there a charge for 3D printing?

No, during this pilot phase of the Maker Hub there is no cost for printing.

Can I print whatever I want?

Anything you print must be for lawful purposes. In addition, you must abide by all applicable laws and Elon Technology’s Acceptable Usage Policy.

Can I operate the 3D printers myself?

Yes. If you’re new to 3D printing, talk to a Maker Hub staff person about getting started or attend a 3D printing training (see the calendar on our homepage). Maker Hub staff are available during regular hours (listed on the left of this webpage).

How can I get help printing my model?

Ask a Maker Hub student employee! If they don’t know what to do, they will help you find someone who does.

How long does it take to print something on the 3D printer?

This depends on the final quality and detail of your printed object. You can expect to print objects like phone cases, plaques, and other small items in under an hour. Large complex pieces can take dozens of hours. The printing software should provide you with a rough estimate of print time.
