Alliance for Catholic Education

The Alliance for Catholic Education responds to the needs of the Church’s educational mission through service to children in elementary and secondary schools and strives to sustain, strengthen, and transform Catholic schools. American Red Cross

The American Red Cross exists to provide compassionate care to those in need. Their network of generous donors, volunteers and employees share a mission of preventing and relieving suffering, here at home and around the world, through five key service areas: Disaster Relief, Supporting America’s Military Families, Lifesaving Blood, Health and Safety Services and International Services.

Appalachia Service Project

Appalachia Service Project (ASP) is a Christian nonprofit home repair ministry for families and individuals living in substandard housing in Central Appalachia. The organization uses volunteer labor and also provides opportunities for those individuals and groups to take part in an educational, hands-on experience providing emergency home repair and learning about life in Central Appalachia.

 

 

 

City Year

City Year’s mission is to build democracy through citizen service, civic leadership and social entrepreneurship. It is through service that people can demonstrate the power and idealism of young people, engage citizens to benefit the common good, and develop young leaders of the next generation. At City Year’s 25 locations across the United States, teams of diverse young people called corps members serve full-time in schools for 11 months working to improve student attendance, behavior and course performance in English and math.

Comprehensive Rural Health Project

In 1970, doctors Raj and Mabelle Arole founded the Comprehensive Rural Health Project (CRHP) to bring health care to impoverished areas in India, addressing the great disparity that lies between cities and the rural areas. CRHP has pioneered community-based primary health care while working at the grassroots level for the last four decades. In 1992, CRHP established the Jamkhed Institute of Research and Training with a mission to train health care workers across the world in the model it had developed. Since then, this institute has grown to train over 5,000 domestic health workers and 500 international trainees every year. In addition, CRHP continues to work directly at the community level with projects in over 40 villages.

 

 

 

 

 

 

Conservation Trust for North Carolina

For more than 20 years, the Conservation Trust for North Carolina has helped save the places you love – streams, forests, farms, scenic vistas, wildlife habitat, parks, and trails. We work with local land trusts, landowners, communities, and government agencies to protect these natural treasures, so that all North Carolinians can enjoy safe drinking water, clean air, fresh local foods, and recreational opportunities, for generations to come.

Goodwill Industries

Goodwill strives to enhance the dignity and quality of life of individuals and families by helping people reach their full potential through education, skills training and the power of work. Goodwill meets the needs of all job seekers, including programs for youth, seniors, veterans, and people with disabilities, criminal backgrounds and other specialized needs. Last year, Goodwill helped more than 9.8 million people train for careers in industries such as banking, IT and health care, to name a few — and get the supporting services they needed to be successful — such as English language training, additional education, or access to transportation and child care.

 

 

 

Habitat for Humanity

Habitat for Humanity is a nonprofit, ecumenical Christian ministry founded on the conviction that every man, woman and child should have a decent, safe and affordable place to live. Habitat has more than 1,400 local affiliates in the United States and more than 70 organizations around the world.

Johnson Service Corps

Johnson Service Corps is an 11-month program in Chapel Hill, NC for young adults (age 21-29) to engage in service and social justice work, receive leadership development training and spiritual formation, and live in intentional community together. Corps members are placed at local non-profit and social service agencies for 32 hours/week and receive JSC training one day/week. JSC provides housing + utilities, modest food and personal stipends, and health insurance if needed.

 

 

 

 

 

 

NC LiteracyCorps

The North Carolina LiteracyCorps, an AmeriCorps program hosted by the Student Coalition for Action in Literacy Education, is a cohort of 33 AmeriCorps members serving to increase the capacity and direct service impact of North Carolina’s campus and community-based literacy programs. Our priority service areas include providing skills development training such as adult basic education (ABE), general educational development (GED), and English to speakers of other languages (ESOL) to economically disadvantaged adults; recruiting, training, and supporting volunteer literacy tutors; and increasing literacy skills in K-12 students.

North Carolina Campus Compact

North Carolina Campus Compact is the state’s higher education organization that supports and promotes the integration of community engagement into campus culture. As the only coalition that brings together the diverse collection of North Carolina colleges and universities, NC Campus Compact has worked with 49 institutions plus the three system offices. In joining the Compact, presidents and chancellors declare their commitment to the civic purposes of higher education. They also become part of a national Campus Compact which has 1,200 presidents and chancellors leading engagement within their communities.

 

 

 

 

 

 

Peacehaven Community Farm

Peacehaven is a sustainable farm in the Piedmont Triad of North Carolina connecting people with disabilities with their community. Peacehaven sits on 89 beautiful acres of woodlands; gardens and meadows provide space for community and daily activities for those working and volunteering at the farm. At Peacehaven we are not just growing vegetables—we are growing relationships and building a community that will sustain this farm for generations.

Playworks

Playworks’ vision is that one day every child in America will get to play – every day. They create a place for every kid on the playground, a place where every kid belongs, has fun and is part of the game. They offer an essential opportunity for children to explore their imaginations, to connect with other children and to stretch and grow physically, emotionally and socially. Playworks has 24 locations across the US.

 

 

 

 

Teach For America

Teach For America is the national corps of outstanding recent college graduates and working professionals – of all academic majors, backgrounds, and career interests – who commit two years to teach in urban and rural public schools and become lifelong leaders to help all students fulfill their potential.

TEAMeffort

TEAMeffort is a non-profit, interdenominational, Christian youth mission organization dedicated to providing opportunities for both youth and adult leaders to reach out to others through Christian service and live out a passion for God, in the context of “putting our faith into action.” It is our goal to facilitate middle and high school youth groups on their summer mission trips. TEAMeffort is designed to be a mixture of hard work, spiritual growth, and good, clean, adventurous fun.

 

 

 

AIESEC

AIESEC is a global platform for young people to explore and develop their leadership potential. We are a non-political, independent, not-for-profit organisation run by students and recent graduates of institutions of higher education. Since we were founded, we have engaged and developed over 1,000,000 young people who have been through an AIESEC experience. The impact of our organisation can be seen through our alumni who represent business, NGO and world leaders, including one Nobel Peace Prize laureate, Martti Atisaari of Finland

AmeriCorps National Civilian Community Corps

AmeriCorps NCCC strengthens communities and develops leaders through direct, team-based national and community service. In partnership with non-profits — secular and faith-based — local municipalities, state governments, federal government, national and state parks, Indian tribes, and schools, members complete service projects throughout their assigned region.

Center for New North Carolinians

The Center for New North Carolinians is committed to advancing the capacity of immigrants and refugees and to building bridges between immigrant populations and existing communities throughout the state by providing community-based outreach and advocacy, educational programming, research and evaluation, immigrant and refugee leadership development, and educational opportunities.

Elon Year of Service Fellows Program

The Elon Year of Service Fellows program is a partnership between Elon University and several organizations in Alamance County, which offers recent Elon graduates the opportunity to engage in meaningful service work to improve the health, education, and economic well-being of residents in Alamance County.

GlobalGiving

We work with registered organizations to raise money and organize donors for specific projects in communities all over the world. Unlike a traditional foundation, GlobalGiving does not provide grants. Instead, we offer organizations an easy-to-use fundraising and donor management system, fundraising tools and training, and access to our corporate partners and media outreach.

NCCE VISTA

Part of the National Service Program, Americorps, that works with universities across North Carolina through two focused programs aimed to fight poverty: Hunger Corps and Afterschool Corps. This opportunity is a 1-year full-time commitment with one of NCCE’s partner higher education institutions and nonprofit organizations.

Peace Corps

Today’s Peace Corps is more vital than ever, working in emerging and essential areas such as information technology and business development, and contributing to the President’s Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief. Peace Corps Volunteers continue to help countless individuals who want to build a better life for themselves, their children, and their communities.

Public Allies North Carolina

Public Allies North Carolina is part of a national network that builds the capacity of future generations within the non-profit industry sector. Public Allies is an AmeriCorps program that places young adults in a paid, 10-month apprenticeship with a local non-profit organization. Public Allies North Carolina’s operating partner is the North Carolina Institute of Minority Economic Development (the Institute). Public Allies North Carolina has been operating in the Triangle region for the past 15 years and is currently serving all of North Carolina.

The Jewish Service Corps

The Jewish Service Corps is an immersive service year program for individuals ages 21-26 who are passionate about social justice and ready to engage in a pluralistic Jewish community. Corps Members live and learn together in intentional, pluralistic communal homes in Chicago, New Orleans, New York, and Washington, DC. Corps Members serve directly at local organizations tackling crucial social and economic justice issues. Corps Members graduate with a year of meaningful, on-the-ground job experience and robust professional and personal development, joining our active 1,500+ alumni network of Jewish social justice professionals and activists who will continue to support their future careers and serve as their Jewish community for life.

Z. Smith Reynolds Foundation

The Z. Smith Reynolds Foundation (ZSR) is committed to improving the quality of life of all North Carolinians. Grounded in the forward-thinking values of its founding family members, for 75 years ZSR has invested in nonprofit organizations that are dedicated to building inclusive, equitable and vibrant communities. In addition to grant-making, the foundation partners with policymakers, businesses, and community leaders to develop best practices, respond to challenges and opportunities and generate strategies that will advance the future of North Carolina. Since its inception, the Foundation has awarded grants totaling more than $350 million to organizations in all 100 counties across the state.
