Winter and spring term registration

As students return from fall break, they should make appointments with their academic advisors to discuss registration for winter and spring terms. Online registration opens Nov. 5, and students must get their advisor’s approval to access the registration system. With a number of advising tools available, students can effectively prepare for their appointments, leaving time to discuss internships, study abroad and other co-curricular opportunities.

Many first-year and transfer students are now more comfortable navigating campus and making new friends, but the transition into college can also affect parents and family members. Some challenges during this time may be related to academics, such as preparing for exams, or involve social situations like roommate conflicts. Fraternity and sorority life
At Elon University, fraternities and sororities positively impact local and national communities. This spring, formal membership recruitment and intake processes will take place. Students must have at least a 2.7 GPA with 12 credits completed at Elon to be eligible for membership. With more than 225 registered student organizations in addition to Elon's fraternities and sororities, students have a wealth of options for getting involved on campus.  Students may register online for recruitment starting Nov. 5.

Commencement 2016: steps for your student to take

Students must apply for graduation in the fall of their senior year to successfully complete their requirements for graduation. Students who plan to graduate in December, January, or May must fill out the online application and schedule an appointment for their senior audit. Each student meets with the Senior Associate Registrar to review his or her application and all remaining requirements needed to graduate.

Global engagement: an Elon Experience
Though many students begin planning a global engagement experience based on where they want to travel, today’s college student can be better served by first questioning what they will study during the program and if that program keeps the student on pace to graduate. As a parent, you can spark conversation by asking, “How will you maximize your experience?” and encouraging your student to explore the many options and opportunities. Your student might find program alumni (global ambassadors), get a scholarship, or incorporate an internship into their sojourn.

Careers and internships
The Student Professional Development Center has had a busy fall with recruitment events. With more events and opportunities ahead, please remind your students, regardless of class year and major, that the fall semester is an important time to engage with the SPDC. It is common for summer 2016 internship deadlines to be as early as Nov. 1! Students can make an appointment with a career advisor by calling 336-278-6554 and can view interview schedules, job and internship postings, and career events by logging on to their Elon Job Network account.

Homecoming - Oct. 16-18
Elon alumni will return home for various activities such as reunion receptions, the Elon vs. JMU football game, academic department open houses and more.

Elon Men's Soccer @ Duke Social - Oct. 20 

The Phoenix Club will host a pre-game social at T.G.I. Friday's starting at 5 p.m., with a game kick-off time of 7 p.m.

Graduate & Professional School Fair - Oct. 21 
This is a great opportunity for students considering graduate and professional school to meet representatives from many universities and programs.

Oklahoma! - Oct. 22-24/29-31
The Department of Performing Arts presents Oklahoma!, Rodgers and Hammerstein's first collaboration set in Oklahoma at the turn of the century.

Elon Football @ Stony Brook Tailgate - Oct. 31
Come join other Phoenix alums, parents and fans as we take on the Seawolves. The tailgate will include food, drinks and family-fun activities. 

Year of Service Expo - Nov. 3
Students considering short-term service after graduation have the opportunity to speak with representatives offering experiences in the U.S. and abroad.

Thanksgiving Break - Nov. 20-27

This year, Elon's Thanksgiving break will be a week long.

Festival of Holiday Lights - Dec. 3
The evening features many talented Elon musicians, various cultural and religious celebrations of winter and a formal lighting of campus decorations.
