With online instruction extended through the remainder of the spring 2020 semester, the Interactive Media program has been impacted in a variety of ways. A committee of iMedia students, faculty and staff deliberated to chart a path forward for the 2020 cohort, set to graduate in May:

  • Virtual capstone presentations: The move to a virtual showcase will allow potential employers, university faculty and staff, and family members to engage with each student presenter and see their work demonstrated in real time.
  • Graduation ceremony rescheduled: The university will host a full graduation hooding ceremony on campus in the fall — held in accordance with CDC and institutional guidelines. A specific date has not yet been determined. As is customary with Elon commencement ceremonies, the fall event will be livestreamed. A celebratory cookout on campus will follow.
  • Degrees still conferred in May: The university will livestream President Connie Book officially conferring the iMedia graduate degrees this spring. Accompanying the online presentation will be a showcase of the 2020 iMedia cohort with music, videos, photos and more.
  • When will iMedia graduates receive their diplomas? The university will mail all diplomas home in May.

A special thank you to Arlette Hawkins, Michael Hemstreet, David Copeland, Kenn Gaither, Derek Lackaff and Maggie Mullikin who formed the iMedia commencement committee and presented the plan detailed above.
