The Sport Management program has so many great resources, and here are two important ones for the Sport Management Society: 1) Our location – Being located in central North Carolina, it is easy to connect with other great schools and programs and access successful sport management businesses and organizations in the surrounding area. 2) Our People – Between our professors, program alumni and current students, we have so many connections throughout this industry, and we can use those avenues for professional development, knowledge, networking, as well as hosting great events.

Speaker Forum with Carolina Hurricanes Executive Staff
This event was both a social outing and a great professional development event. The evening began with an opportunity to tour the facility before an NHL game, and then hear from senior level executives of the Carolina Hurricanes and PNC Arena. Topics ranged from advice for students looking to break into the industry to the day-to-day roles of people in different areas of the organization, including ownership, ticketing, operations and marketing.
Internship Forum
As a part of the SPT major, students are required to complete a 400-hour internship in the sport management industry. The Internship Forum, hosted in conjunction with the department, showcases what current seniors have done for their internship requirements. This event allows other students to learn about those opportunities, ask questions and network with seniors as they prepare to apply for internships or jobs of their own. This is always a great event, which takes place every fall semester, and truly showcases the amazing opportunities for and accomplishments of the students in our program.
Senior Banquet and Awards Ceremony
This end-of-the-year event is always special. As our seniors prepare to enter the industry, this is a time to celebrate another great academic year, visit with professors and fellow students, and hear from an alumni speaker. The event is held at the Alumni Field House – an exciting space for this yearly event. During the banquet, numerous students – both underclassmen and graduating seniors – are recognized with department awards.
