School of Communications
School of Communications Standing Committees
These committees have both staff and faculty representation and help with the shared governance of the School.
ACADEMIC LEADERSHIP COMMITTEE
CHARGE: To implement and strategize policies and procedures related to the school, its departments and academic programs including budget, releases, staffing, implications on students, university service, etc. To successfully guide revised department curricula through the faculty governance model and all university and school committees to successful implementation.
AWARDS AND COMPETITIONS COMMITTEE
CHARGE: Identify appropriate student competitions for the School of Communications. Evaluate applications for and award student creative grants. Make recommendations for awards that recognize outstanding personal and professional achievement of School of Communications students and alumni.
COM CORE ADVISORY COMMITTEE
CHARGE: To guide conversations and provide recommendations to the school faculty and leadership regarding the School’s communications core curriculum.
CURRICULUM COMMITTEE
CHARGE: Consider changes to Communications majors and courses in conjunction with the university’s curriculum committee and processes. Evaluate the school’s and department’s assessment instruments and use the assessment findings to create changes to loop back into the curriculum.
DIVERSITY COMMITTEE
CHARGE: Continue the implementation and evaluation of the School of Communications diversity plan; investigate ways to enhance the international and domestic initiatives of the plan.
UNDERGRADUATE RESEARCH AND TEACHER/SCHOLAR/MENTOR COMMITTEE
CHARGE: Plan teaching development programs and SURF day faculty scholarship presentations; make recommendations on how to enhance the School of Communications intellectual climate; and, in conjunction with the School Elon Journal and Undergraduate Research Committee, consider ways to involve faculty in undergraduate research mentorships. Explore and promote undergraduate research including Lumen, SURF, NCUR, Honors.
ELON SPORTS VISION STEERING COMMITTEE
CHARGE: To provide support for and evaluation of Elon Sports Vision and associated cohort, and collaborate on high-quality student production and coverage of Elon sporting events.
FELLOWS COMMITTEE
CHARGE: Review and implement the Fellows selection process; select class and organize program elements for Communications Fellows.
SCHOOL STAFF COUNCIL
CHARGE: To assist with the climate and with non-teaching operations of the School of Communications.
TECHNOLOGY COMMITTEE
CHARGE: Monitor developments in technology and consider School of Communications needs; draft an annual recommendation of technology needs.
