Wellness models are used to show that wellness is multi-dimensional. Humans have many different components that impact their health and wellness. Elon created a model that encompasses 6 dimensions of wellness. Wellness is multi-dimensional and a journey. There is no “end”, and not just “one way” to improve wellness. The six dimensions Elon uses are: community, emotional, financial, physical, purpose, and social. We also provide resources from the National Wellness Institute’s wellness models on this site.
“Mindfulness is awareness that arises through paying attention, on purpose, in the present moment, non-judgementally… in the service of self-understanding and wisdom” (Jon Kabat-Zinn, 2017). Mindfulness is a skill set that requires practice. There are mindful practices for each dimension that can improve wellbeing. Practicing mindfulness is especially helpful for managing stress and anxiety, improving cognition, and for increasing compassion for yourself and others.
