Description
The Paideia: Politics and Active Citizenship LLC is open to anyone interested in global, national, state and local politics and interested in getting involved in political issues, campaigns, and governance. Paideia is also an opportunity to learn how to educate others about issues and how other students can make a difference in our world, nation, state, and community.
Paideia is the place to be for politically active and interested students. As we begin another election cycle with the 2022 midterm elections and then the almost immediate start to the 2024 presidential race, the Paideia LLC offers the chance to connect with issues and the community. Paideia also provides a safe forum for you to discuss, debate, and learn from your peers as we as a community navigate the fast paced events unfolding around us.
Expectations
The Paideia: Politics and Active Citizenship LLC is a community of concerned students dedicated to acquiring and acting upon a well- rounded knowledge of the issues in the life of the East Neighborhood, the Elon University campus community, the cities of Elon and Burlington, the state of North Carolina, the United States, and ultimately the Global Community. This practically means steady interaction with campus and community leaders, active involvement in the life of the Elon and Burlington communities, and identification of issues important to each individual member of Paideia. Each member of the Paideia community should be active in political issues and campaigns, and committed to educating one another and the East Residential Neighborhood and Elon community on issues and the ways in which active citizens can influence those issues.
Paideia students will:
- Learn how we as a community can practice civility and bipartisanship even when we disagree on issues
- Have the chance to actively connect what we learn in the classroom with life on campus, around the community, and in the nation and world
- Have the opportunity to experience together through discussion, reflection and action the fast paced events that characterize the America of 2022
- Develop essential skills for civic and political engagement and learn how citizens get involved on the local, state, national, and international level
