Research/Creative Interests

My primary research area is international public relations with an emphasis on lower income nations. I am also interested in public relations, persuasion, propaganda and nation branding.

What types of “data” do you commonly use?

Text in its many forms, including public relations materials, news media coverage and website/social media.

What types of collaborations are you open to?

Open to working with honors students and students interested in research at the intersection of communications and international affairs.

Student Qualifications

  • I am particularly open to working with students who don’t have much experience with research but bring a strong desire to do the work. I can also help connect students to faculty in the school of communications who might be good mentors and advisors.

A little bit more info:

The pathway to becoming a dean is through teaching. I cherish teaching and the opportunity to work with students not in spite of being a dean, but as part of being a dean. In my time at Elon, I’ve had the pleasure of working with honors fellows, communications fellows, independent majors and students who are interested in communications at an international level. My three books all encompass international public relations, and all my scholarship centers on communication as an international enterprise.
