Elon University invites applications, nominations and expressions of interest for the position of Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs.

Elon is a selective, mid-sized private university renowned as a national model for engaged and experiential learning. Elon is the premier student-centered learning environment, preparing graduates to be the ethical leaders the world needs. Elon’s rigorous curriculum is grounded in the arts and sciences and is distinguished by a chapter of Phi Beta Kappa and nationally accredited professional and graduate programs. The 585 full-time and part-time faculty members teach in more than 60 undergraduate majors, along with seven masters programs and two professional doctoral programs. Elon’s four-year graduation rate of 79 percent ranks in the top 10 percent of U.S. private universities. The university includes Elon College, the College of Arts and Sciences; the Martha and Spencer Love School of Business; the School of Communications; the School of Education; the School of Health Sciences; and the School of Law, which is located in downtown Greensboro, N.C. Elon’s 6,196 undergraduate and 795 graduate students come from 47 states and 53 other countries. Elon is ranked #1 for study abroad by the Institute for International Education and is a top producer of Fulbright Student Scholars. Elon leads the nation in the 2019 U.S. News & World Report ranking of academic programs that “Focus on Student Success,” and is ranked the #1 Regional University in the South, with #1 rankings for undergraduate teaching and innovation.

The next provost and vice president for academic affairs will join Elon’s new president, appointed in 2018, and the entire community in pursuing new strategic priorities and innovative ideas that build on the university’s mission, history and success. As the chief academic officer, the provost and vice president for academic affairs provides intellectual leadership for all academic departments and multi-disciplinary programs, student life departments, their faculty and staff, and budgets. The provost and vice president for academic affairs works collaboratively across all parts of the institution to promote academic excellence. The provost reports to the president and serves on the president’s cabinet, Elon’s senior leadership team.

Elon seeks a proven, successful leader with a deep understanding of and familiarity with higher education; significant administrative and budget capabilities and accomplishments; a distinguished record of teaching, scholarship and service; and an earned doctoral degree and qualifications for tenure at the rank of full professor in one of the university’s departments. Candidates should have a collaborative and transparent approach to leadership, the ability to recognize and encourage innovation, an established track record of designing and executing high-level initiatives in a shared governance environment, passion for the mission of the university, a commitment to diversity and inclusion, and the relationship-building and communication skills to connect with Elon University’s constituents.
