Update on the 2024-25 FAFSA

The 2024-25 FAFSA was delayed until December 31, 2023. At that time, colleges and universities expected to receive results in late January. The U.S. Department of Education has updated this timeline and notified all schools that FAFSA results will now be made available in mid-March.

For New Students entering Fall 2024

In addition to the FAFSA, which determines eligibility for Federal Aid, Elon requires the CSS Profile from The College Board. The Profile allows us to determine institutional financial aid eligibility.  Beginning in February, Elon will post estimated financial aid offers to accepted students who have completed and submitted the CSS Profile. This estimate will include all aid for which the student should be eligible. Offers will first be presented to students with demonstrated financial need.  Any adjustments to aid offers will be made after the official results of the FAFSA are received in March and an updated offer letter will be issued at that time.

We appreciate your patience and look forward to providing the financial resources available to support your Elon education.

For Returning Students

Receiving the results of the FAFSA in mid-March should not impact the renewal of financial aid offers to returning students. The typical timeline for Financial Aid staff to evaluate returning students begins in April.

Steps in Applying

Apply early for need-based aid. This improves your chances for getting the maximum aid for which you are eligible.

You should complete and submit your FAFSA and CSS Profile as soon as possible after they become available.  The 2024-25 FAFSA is slated to become available in December 2023. The 2024-25 CSS Profile will become available on October 1, 2023. We will begin to review FAFSA and Profile data in early January for first year students and in April for continuing students.

Unless the student is a continuing student, no aid is awarded until the student has been accepted for admission to Elon University; however, you should not wait until you have been accepted to apply for aid.

  1. For all types of aid, complete and submit the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). Elon’s FAFSA federal Title IV school code is 002927.
  2. Elon University requires the results of the CSS Profile to be considered for need-based aid that comes from the university.  The Profile is completed at https://cssprofile.collegeboard.org  Elon’s CSS Profile code is 5183.
  3. Notify Elon’s Office of Financial Aid of any scholarships, grants, loans or other assistance you will be receiving from any source other than Elon University. Such notification is required by federal regulation as well as institutional policy.
