What are some highlights from the last 40 years?

Graduated in May 1980 and Commissioned a 2ndLt in the US Marine Corps. Stationed at Marine Corps Air Station Beaufort SC for 3.5 years, got out and became a reservist. Completed 30 years of Marine Corps duty and retired as a LtCol. Activated in 2003 for the Iraq war and was in Irag for 6 months in 2004. “The most exhilarating experience is to be shot at, and not get hit. Mark Twain”. I lived that for sure.

On top of that I run a business called Filtration Technology Inc. I have been here for 35 years. We provide replacement air filters for industrial, commercial businesses as well as home owners. We also design/build High Tech Environmental Enclosures called Clean rooms. We have provided these facilities for NASA, Pharmaceutical Companies, Medical Device Manufacturers, Compounding Pharmacies and many other industries requiring clean and controlled environments.

Lastly, I am married to Kim (Spencer) Matthews Class of 1980 and we have two great Kids; Tiffany and Ryan. From them they have have blessed us with three beautiful grandchildren, Olivia, Palmer and Scotty. Oh, their significant others are over the moon as well; Brian for Tiffany and Margaret for Ryan.

Who would you particularly like to see at the reunion (virtual and in-person)?

All those AnTKEs and those lovely ladies from ASA. Love the ladies form ZTA, Tri-Sig and Phi-Mu too. Hope to see all of you from our era!!!!!!

How many (and/or) who of your classmates do you still keep in contact with today?

Probably 50 or more, between Frat Brothers and the ladies from the Sororities. FB has been a great source for keeping in touch in that regard.

What is your favorite Elon memory?

Football games at the High School Stadium in Burlington with the “Empty Bottle Cheer”!!!!

What is something interesting that you want your classmates to know about you?

Activated from my USMC Reserve Status in Mar 2003 to full military active duty. Deployed and served in Combat in Iraq in 2004. Released from Active Duty in late 2005. “The most exhilarating experience is to be shot at, and not get hit”. Mark Twain
