Don’t Trash It! Coordinator (April-May 2020)

Strengthen your leadership skills and gain the satisfaction of knowing you helped divert thousands of pounds of usable items from a landfill. Don’t Trash It! is Elon’s end-of-year move-out program that salvages useful items from the trash stream and donates them to partner organizations such as Goodwill, Habitat for Humanity and Furniture Ministries.   The campaign begins on May 13th and lasts through May 31 This is a 5-week paid position supervised by the Office of Sustainability. Each Coordinator is expected to work a total of 30 – 40 hours between April 27 and May 31. Start and end dates are flexible.

Sustainability Projects Intern (Summer 2020)

This intern will work with the Assistant Director of sustainability to create a Sustainable Events Certification Program for the Office of Sustainability.  This will include researching other university’s programs and creating materials that will work at Elon University.

This intern will also manage Elon’s Sustainable Workplace program, working to promote the program to faculty and staff.  This intern will manage this program throughout the summer, meeting with faculty and staff as necessary to educate about the program.

Metrics Intern (Summer 2020)

The Metrics Intern in the Office of Sustainability will assist with projects related to Elon’s climate neutrality goal, specifically Elon’s next GHG inventory, and Elon’s STARS (Sustainability Tracking, Assessment and Rating System) report. The primary responsibilities will be collecting and analyzing the relevant data for FY 2020 from university departments and collecting and organizing data to update Elon’s STARS information.

Eco-Reps (2020-2021 Academic Year)

Be part of a small team of students working to contribute to a more sustainable Elon! Eco-Reps are peer educators dedicated to furthering sustainability by promoting ways for students to adopt more environmentally and socially responsible behaviors. Eco-Reps educate their peers about environmental and sustainability issues through three primary outlets: Coordinating with Residence Life staff to incorporate sustainability themes or practices into residential programs; Delivering Sustainable Living lessons to Elon 101 and Global Studies courses as requested; and creating programs or activities that raise awareness of sustainability issues or promote sustainable living practices.

Each Eco- Rep is responsible for communicating information about sustainability initiatives and activities to residents in their assigned neighborhood. This position is for the full academic year, but students studying abroad will be considered. Eco-Reps are expected to work between 4-6 hours per week.

Sustainability Outreach Intern (2020-2021 Academic Year)

The Outreach Intern will develop and implement outreach campaigns that enhance the Office of Sustainability’s education and outreach efforts. The intern will be responsible for researching, designing and implementing innovative and engaging outreach strategies and materials related to specific sustainability programs, including the Sustainability Projects Database, Fill It Forward and Share the Ride NC, among others.  Additional responsibilities will include entering, reviewing and organizing submissions to the Sustainability Projects Database.

Sustainability Volunteer Coordinator (2020-2021 Academic Year)

The Sustainability Volunteer Coordinator will recruit, manage and train volunteers interested in helping with Office of Sustainability events and programs, such as Weigh the Waste and river clean-ups.  They will also be the liaison between Eco-Reps and volunteers, encouraging Eco-Reps to invite volunteers to help with events as needed.
