Types of Investigations

Those who have experienced sexual violence, relationship violence and/ or stalking can choose to report the incident to Title IX. The Title IX Office can provide many forms of support to survivors of interpersonal violence. One form of support that is offered is investigations, however, in most cases survivors can choose whether they would like their incident investigated. Investigations through Title IX are a way for survivors to seek sanctions through the university for their perpetrator. If you decide you would like the incident investigated, you can have an advisor of your choice such as a member of the faculty/ staff, a confidential advocate, a family member, or legal representation.

Law Enforcement

Survivors of violence can also choose to file a police report. To do this, they will need to contact 911 or the police department that has jurisdiction over where the violence took place. Those interested in reporting to police can file a report without initially pressing charges. Investigations through law enforcement is a way for survivors to seek legal sanctions for their perpetrator. Survivors can request for an advocate to accompany them to meetings with police or detectives by calling Safeline at 336-278-3333 or emailing jmetz2@elon.edu.
