All Elon University employees (including student employees) are eligible for vaccinations as part of Group 3, regardless of whether they are performing their jobs in-person or remotely. 

Students, staff and faculty are strongly encouraged to get the vaccine wherever and whenever it is available to them. Everyone is asked to get vaccinated as soon as possible and upload their vaccination record. (Upload instructions: mobile, desktop)

Staff who receive the vaccine may take up to two hours of pandemic leave to travel to their appointment and receive the vaccination, if the appointment time falls within scheduled work hours.

On the 15th day after completing the last shot of your COVID-19 vaccination (second dose of the Moderna and Pfizer vaccines, or the single dose of the Johnson & Johnson vaccine), students, faculty and staff will be considered “fully vaccinated” and eligible for the following exemptions for at least 90 days (or depending on CDC guidelines):

  • Exempt from participating in required campus testing
  • Exempt from requirements to quarantine as a close contact

These guidelines do not apply if the person has symptoms suggestive of COVID-19. Fully vaccinated students who are deemed a close contact, must self-quarantine in their residence hall or apartment room and contact Student Health Services and reach out to to receive further instructions. Fully vaccinated employees who are deemed a close contact, must self-quarantine at home and contact their health care provider or the Faculty/Staff Health & Wellness Clinic regarding next steps.

All students, faculty and staff who have been fully vaccinated, must complete the COVID-19 Testing Exception form and attach a copy or image of their vaccine documentation (COVID-19 Vaccination Record Card) when submitting the form. No individual will be considered fully vaccinated unless they have provided proof of both doses and an additional 14 days have passed.

Lost Your Vaccination Card?

You can access your vaccination record on the North Carolina Vaccine Portal. You will be prompted to sign in with the username created at the time of your original vaccination appointment. After you are logged in, click on “My Dashboard” to access your record (under “Vaccine Record” tab). If you received the Moderna or Pfizer vaccine, please make sure to get proof of both vaccine dates. For questions about accessing your vaccination record, call the COVID-19 vaccine help center at (888)-675-4567, Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. until 7 p.m., and on Saturday and Sunday from 8 a.m. until 4 p.m.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I get COVID from the vaccine?

No. You may have temporary reactions like a sore arm, headache or feeling tired and achy for a day or two after receiving the vaccine.

I made a vaccine appointment. Now what?

You should eat and be well-hydrated prior to attending your appointment.Plan to arrive 15 minutes before your appointment time and wear a short-sleeved shirt so the vaccinator can easily access the vaccine site. Also, remember that you must sit for at least 15 minutes following your appointment.

Is the vaccine required for members of the Elon community?

Vaccination promises to be our nation’s best strategy to diminish the threat of COVID-19. The vaccines approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration have been tested and proved to be safe and effective. All members of the campus community are strongly encouraged to receive the vaccine unless they have a medical reason or religious exemption that prevent them from receiving it.

Is the vaccine safe?

Yes. Three vaccines from Pfizer-BioNTech, Moderna and Johnson & Johnson (Janssen) have proven to provide significant protection against COVID-19 and protect against virus-related hospitalization and death, with no serious safety concerns in the clinical trials.

*April 13 Update: The state of North Carolina is following the recommendations of the FDA and CDC and have paused the administration of the Johnson & Johnson COVID-19 vaccine. The safety system in place is working as it should. If you have an appointment for Pfizer or Moderna, please go to your appointment as planned. What should I do if I have a reaction to the vaccine?

If you experience an adverse reaction to any vaccine, please report that information via the VAERS system. You can also utilize the V-SAFE after-vaccination tool.

What’s in the vaccine?

The COVID-19 vaccines give the cells in your body the instructions to make a protein that safely teaches your body how to make antibodies (germ-fighting cells) to fight the real COVID-19. Your body naturally destroys the instructions and gets rid of them. None of the vaccine ingredients remain in your system, nor do they alter any DNA in your body. The three COVID-19 vaccines currently available in the United States do not contain eggs, preservatives, fetal tissue, stem cells, mercury or latex. When can I receive the vaccine?

The NC Department of Health and Human Services maintains a website with information about the timing of vaccine availability. This site will have the most current and accurate information about when you are eligible to receive your vaccination.

Will I have to pay for the vaccine?

No. The COVID vaccine will be free and available to all, regardless of your immigration status or whether or not you have insurance.
