Elon Law BEF Moot Court Judge Volunteer Form (October 11-12, 2019)

Thank you for your interest in volunteering your time and expertise to judge oral arguments during the 10th Billings, Exum & Frye National Moot Court Competition, October 11-12, 2019. We have 40 teams from 27 law schools across the country competing. Your participation is crucial to the success of the competition, and our student Moot Court Board is very appreciative of your support.

Each oral argument round lasts approximately 60 minutes, with a short break between rounds. We would ask, if possible, that you judge two hour long rounds. If you can only judge one round or if you could judge more than two, we would appreciate that as well. We will provide a judges’ suite with refreshments and meals, and we request that each judge arrive at least fifteen minutes before his or her scheduled round.

At least a week prior to the oral argument sessions, you will receive a bench brief that consists of the moot court problem, cases and other authorities that will be helpful to judges, and suggested questions that you might ask the competitors.

Finally, we are pleased that this year’s Distinguished Leadership Lecture, featuring former U.S. Attorney and current bestselling author Preet Bharara, takes place on October 10, the evening before the Competition begins. As a thank you for your support, we would like to offer our volunteers a complimentary ticket to the lecture (tickets are normally $15). You can volunteer and sign up for a free ticket below. (If you cannot volunteer but would like to purchase a lecture ticket, you can do so by calling the Carolina Theatre at 336-333-2605 or by purchasing them online at the Theatre web site).

If you have any questions, please email Sr. Assoc. Dean Alan Woodlief, Director of the Moot Court Program, at awoodlief@elon.edu. Thank you for your support.
