Elon Law’s academic & bar support specialist appointed to ABA editorial role

Haley Mendola L’18 will write articles, recruit authors, and plan events over the next year as an associate editor for TYL Magazine, a publication of the American Bar Association’s Young Lawyers Division.

Elon Law’s academic and bar support specialist in the Office of Academic Success has been appointed to an editorial role with the American Bar Association’s Young Lawyers Division.

Haley Mendola L’18 begins her yearlong role as associate editor for the TYL Editorial Board effective September 1, 2022.

As an associate editor, Mendola will write and edit articles, recruit authors, plan events, and assist the editor in chief of TYL Magazine, the flagship publication of the Young Lawyers Division. She will also collaborate on print, web, social media, and multimedia content.

Mendola teaches Introduction to Legal Studies and Mastering Legal Analysis at Elon Law as an academic and bar support specialist. She said the Office of Academic Success consistently incorporates experiential learning into its curriculum and the editorial appointment will assist the office by bringing it new ideas from practicing attorneys and legal scholars.

“I’ve always had an interest in legal education and scholarship, and I’ve been taking steps at producing my own scholarship with the hopes of incorporating it into the classroom,” Mendola said. “This role with the ABA Young Lawyers Division will help achieve that goal, and I think it is very important for our students to see their professors creating material that adds to our legal community.”

Prior to joining Elon Law, Mendola practiced law in Washington, D.C., and Maryland, focusing primarily on personal injury, family law and civil litigation. She earned her undergraduate degree in political science from Seton Hill University and her law degree from Elon Law.
