|Finishing the Semester
|With the semester winding down, the next several weeks can be stressful for students. This is an important time to be attuned to well-being and take a step back. Below are some strategies for your student to keep in mind as they manage the variety of stressors that come with the end of the semester:
Students have access to a number of resources, including mindfulness and relaxation apps, Therapy Assistance Online (TAO), group therapy and workshops and tutorial services. You can also learn more about supporting your college student on the Koenigsberger Learning Center website.
- Get adequate sleep
- Unplug from social media/technology
- Stay hydrated and eat nutritiously
- Be physically active
- Take a step back to regather your thoughts
- Practice mindfulness
- Get organized
|Preparing for Winter Break
|Before your student leaves for Winter Break, encourage them to check off these important items as they vacate their residence:
Break periods are the university’s time to do routine maintenance as well as health and safety inspections. For more information, please visit the Residence Life website.
- Unplug all electrical cords, including aquariums. Students will not need to unplug refrigerators but should be sure to remove any perishable food items
- Close and lock windows and lock the bedroom door
- Close blinds and drapes
- Turn off lights
- Empty trash in designated areas
- Remove all personal items from the floor and take all valuables home
|Winter Term Information
|From traveling the world to expanding academic horizons to diving into engaged learning opportunities, Elon students have the opportunity to enjoy an array of exciting experiences during Winter Term. Programs include service opportunities, campus recreation and wellness programs, special workshops and seminars and student-led Burst the Bubble programs.
If your student is planning to travel abroad during Winter Term, be sure to check out the Global Education Center’s tips on how to prepare. Similarly, if your student is returning to campus from a semester away, be sure to share these helpful tips on how to ease the transition back to campus.
Winter Term begins on Friday, Jan. 3 and concludes with examinations on Friday, Jan. 24. Following exams, Fake Break will begin and residence halls will close. Students can request to stay on campus during this time by filling out the Break Housing Request Form.

|A few times a year, the Office of Parent Engagement partners with special guests from around campus to bring you Facebook Live sessions focused on a range of different topics. Sessions include live question and answer segments and are shared on the Elon Parents Facebook page as well as our website.

|Festival of Holiday Lights
|The Festival of Holiday Lights, one of Elon’s most honored traditions, will take place on Tuesday, Dec. 3. This event began as a simple ceremony 35 years ago. It has since grown into one of the most beloved traditions at Elon, with the lighting of campus decorations, festive treats and performances. Luminaries line the brick pathways and remind us of the bright futures of our Elon students.
