Elon phoenix families Summer 2018

Welcome

On behalf of the Parents Council, we extend a warm “Elon Welcome” to all new families!

Elon provides an environment where students, faculty and staff work together to further students’ education, personal development and success. Parents and families also play a vital role in this special learning community and, likewise, in Elon’s drive for excellence. Recognizing this, the Parents Council engages with the Office of Parent Engagement and senior administrators to represent the parent body to the university on a range of important issues. Please feel free to contact us or any member of the council through the Office of Parent Engagement at 336-278-7470 or parentengagement@elon.edu.

We wish you and your students a most successful year at Elon!

Warm regards,

Paul and Mindee Blanco P’19
Co-presidents of the Elon University Parents Council
Fairfield, Connecticut

Emergency resources from Campus Safety

Campus safety is a top priority for Elon. In an emergency, emergency.elon.edu and the E-Net news website will be updated frequently with important instructions and information. Elon University communicates emergency information through email and text messaging. Additional information may be sent out through mobile apps and social media. Campus safety leaders strongly recommend that students and families register for emergency text messages through the E-Alert Notification System. Additionally, students are encouraged to sign up for LiveSafe – an iPhone and Android app that gives users two-way communication direct to Campus Safety and Police.

Mail Services

A few helpful hints for using Mail Services effectively before students arrive on campus for Fall 2018:

• Belongings can be mailed to the student's assigned campus box after Tuesday, Aug. 7.

• Student campus box numbers can be found on their Ontrack account.

• Mail and packages should be properly addressed using the following guidelines to avoid items being delayed or returned to sender:

John Doe
XXXXX Campus Box
Elon, NC 27244

• Due to high volumes at the beginning of the semester, it is strongly recommended that textbooks be sent to the student's home address so that they will have the books when classes begin.

Student Involvement

Student Involvement provides over 75 student-centered programs a semester, including concerts, comedians, trips to sporting and cultural events, movies and tailgates. It is also the starting point for new organizations and guides new student leaders through the development process. On Friday, Aug. 31, students can attend the Fall Organization Fair on Young Commons from 4-6 p.m. to learn more about each club and organization.

The CONNECTions Team, a group of student leaders located in Moseley Center, can also assist students one-on-one in identifying meaningful involvement opportunities across campus. For a list of active student organizations and upcoming campus events, please visit PhoenixCONNECT.

Elon Athletics

As a member of the Colonial Athletic Association, Elon competes with schools in the Southeast, mid-Atlantic and Northeast in cities that many of our students, alumni and parents call home. Elon has more than 350 student-athletes in 17 Division I varsity sports. Athletic contests for 2018-19 will begin early August with men’s and women’s soccer exhibition matches. All programs are supported by Phoenix Club donors, who assist in providing the scholarships, sports endowments and capital projects that help Elon student-athletes remain successful on the field and in the classroom.
