Campus safety and cold weather preparedness

Monitoring the E-Net news website is the best way for parents and students to stay abreast of weather, weather-related situations and the university’s response to these situations. The university and Elon Dining have plans and resources to shelter and feed students if the campus loses power. Check out the emergency procedures and encourage your student to sign up for the E-Alert system and Live Safe app.

Engaging students beyond the classroom

The Office of Student Activities provides student-centered entertainment and educational programs. The office plans over 60 programs a semester, including concerts, comedians, trips to sporting and cultural events, college coffees and live music at tailgates. In addition to helping facilitate 225+ student organizations and planning campus programs, Student Activities also serves as the starting point for all new organizations and guides new student leaders through the development process. On Feb. 11, the Spring Organization Fair will be held in the Moseley Center from 5-7 p.m. All students are welcome to attend to learn more about each club and organization. See a list of the university's active student organizations here.

Planning for final exams

Exams for spring semester are over three months away, but proper final exam preparation is important for student success this spring. Be sure that you are aware of the final examination schedule and policies for travel and planning purposes.

Commencement 2016

Elon University’s 126th Commencement will be held May 21. Visit Elon's Commencement website for updated information about the schedule of events, undergraduate ceremony, rain plan and other notifications. Members of the Class of 2016 may pick up their bachelor’s robe during the Graduation Fair scheduled for Feb. 29-March 1 at the campus bookstore, Barnes & Noble at Elon University. Information about Commencement merchandise including announcements, diploma frames and rings will be available, and representatives will be present to accept orders. Lifetouch Photography will take senior portraits for purchase and to appear in Phi Psi Cli, the Elon yearbook.

Student well-being

Elon offers an array of well-being resources for students and parents through the Counseling Services website. Counseling Services provides brief, strengths-based psychological support and crisis intervention to address the emotional, social and academic needs of Elon students. The staff welcomes phone calls (336-278-7280) from parents and others.

Living on campus 2016-2017

Residence Life

The housing selection process for current students begins with rising juniors and seniors and will conclude with sophomores selecting in March. The process is designed to give students the flexibility to live with who they want, as we know these relationships are so important. Residence Life will host two online chat sessions for parents on Feb. 14 and Feb. 17 at 8 p.m. to answer questions. For more information, visit the Residence Life website. In addition, meal plan requirements are based on academic credit hours and on-campus housing assignments. Elon Dining meal plans allow for the ultimate value, convenience and flexibility. For more information, visit the Elon Dining website.

Career planning advice

In December, seniors received an email from the Student Professional Development Center providing career planning advice about internships, full-time employment and graduate school. Review the email with your student and encourage them to take advantage of these opportunities.
