Important Information Fall 2020
Update as of 9/23/2020: No visitors are permitted in the residence halls or apartments until further notice. This includes visitors from off campus and other residents.
Room and apartment capacities are based on both physical distancing requirements and the governor’s executive orders.
While the governor’s executive orders stipulate no more than 10 people can gather indoors and no more than 25 people can gather outdoors, these are general guidelines. Physical distancing requires decreased room and apartment capacities to support safety in gathering in residence halls and apartments.
Masks should be worn whenever visitors/guests are in a room/apartment.

As we prepare to return to campus in the fall semester, we will face many new challenges and opportunities as a community. Our success will depend on collective work and shared responsibility. I am looking forward to seeing you all back in person this fall as we continue to provide students with an outstanding residential experience. As previously outlined in messages to the campus community, Elon is preparing to resume in-person instruction for fall 2020.
Residence Life has created new social norms for living on campus, with educational programs and agreements for residential students based on each unique living arrangement. Orientation to residential life at Elon will begin this summer with clear guidelines, arrangements for roommate discussions and living agreements, and information about required room cleaning and regular health and safety checks.
This page will serve as a resource for our residential community and will be updated frequently with important information.
When you return to campus in the fall, you can expect changes to the following residential policies in an effort to keep you and your communities safe:
- Changes to the residential visitation policy (no overnight guests). Visitors are allowed during visitation hours (Mon-Thurs 10am-midnight and Fri-Sat 10am-2am).
- Changes to the room change process (no room changes for fall 2020).
- Intentional conversations about hygiene, food-sharing, and visitation in roommate agreements.
- Increased awareness regarding hand-washing and personal hygiene.
- Face coverings in common areas.
- Changes in common area furniture arrangements and capacity to promote physical distancing.
- Additional cleaning measures.
- Isolation spaces for students who have been diagnosed with or exposed to Covid-19.
