Belk Library Research Guide: Service Learning and Civic Engagement
This guide is a portal to resources to help you understand social issues, organizations addressing the issues, and the people who they affect.
Held mid-semester, this event is an opportunity for faculty to have face-to-face conversations with local organizations and potential partners. These organizations may be existing partnerships or placements for the future. Faculty are able to invite organizations to this event. For more information, please contact Tammy Cobb.
This allows Elon faculty using ASL in their classrooms to share ideas, challenges and successes with colleagues on campus. In addition, faculty will be informed of upcoming workshops, programs and conferences related to service-learning. Email Mary Morrison to sign up.
Need more information about service-learning? Want to learn how other faculty members have used service-learning in their courses? Do your students need information about the social justice issues or populations they are researching? The Kernodle Center houses a variety of articles, books and videos for students and faculty that can be checked out of our library for up to a week at a time. Recommendations are welcome; please let us know if there is a resource we don’t have that you believe we should order.
Consultation and Site Referrals
Kernodle Center staff and students will help you develop service-learning projects for your courses and/or help you locate community agencies whose services relate to your curricular goals. We also can provide you with ideas for reflective activities that help students think critically about the services they provide to those in need.
Protection of Minors
Prior to working with minors on campus everyone is required to complete an annual background check and the Protection of Minors training course that includes a short quiz that requires a minimum passing score of 80%. Visit this page to take the online training course.
