Protestant Life

Vibrant Protestant Life is part of Elon University’s commitment to diversity. The multifaith commitment of the Truitt Center for Religious and Spiritual Life includes supporting Christian students and community members through a wide-range of denominational and non-denominational Protestant groups and programming. Each week there are multiple opportunities for worship, fellowship, prayer, and bible study.

Get Connected

The best way to connect with Protestant Life is to fill out the Spiritual Interest Form.

Express interest in as many groups as you like, and a staff member or student leader will be in touch. You can also find all of our groups on PhoenixConnect.

In addition to student-led groups, Associate University Chaplain Rev. Julie Tonnesen is a resource and a mentor to all students who wish to deepen their connections to their faith, ask tough questions, and explore new paths.

Our Mission

The mission of Christian Life at Elon University is to support nurturing faith communities where students can…

  • Deepen their relationship with Jesus Christ as they grow in faith, hope, and love.
  • Enrich their understanding of scripture and Christian tradition.
  • Explore the dynamic partnership between Christian faith and academic learning.
  • Respect and appreciate the dignity and welfare of every person.
  • Enhance the lives of others by serving the campus and wider world in love.
  • Become prophetic witnesses for peace, reconciliation, and justice.

Christian Faith at Elon

Our Protestant groups include a wide range of worship styles and theological perspectives. Some are more traditional, some more contemporary. Some are evangelical and some progressive. All are welcome and part of the vibrant diversity of Elon University. We have Christians involved in interfaith dialogue, Christians who practice yoga and meditation, Christians active in service and global missions, and Christians deeply committed to justice and peace-making.

Most of our programs are student-led, with support for personal growth and leadership development, and we invite students to contribute their own ideas and energy.

🏳️‍🌈 Open and Affirming Christian Fellowship

The Truitt Center is committed to supporting all students, regardless of race, ethnicity, gender identity, sexual orientation, or any other category. Among our Protestant groups, LEAF, PUG, and Ukirk-Wesley are fully inclusive, LGBTQIA-affirming communities. See list of area churches that are open and affirming.
