Achieving Excellence

A message from President Leo M. Lambert

The breadth of scholarship highlighted in Elon’s 2016 President’s Report demonstrates the impressive work of faculty and students to deepen our understanding of the complex issues facing our world.

This report features faculty members who continually reach for new levels of excellence, making an impact with their groundbreaking research. For example, Elon scholars examined court cases that raise questions about the scope of First Amendment rights; designed an ecovillage, a sustainable community that would serve as a model and educational resource for others; and studied potential immunotherapy treatment options for cancer and other diseases.

Elon faculty scholarship is carried out in the context of their deep commitment to excellence in teaching. Elon faculty inspire students by working alongside them and modeling intellectual rigor. This year nearly 500 students worked one-on-one with faculty on significant, closely-mentored research projects beyond both the classroom and the requirement for their majors, and 230 students presented at the Spring Undergraduate Research Forum. Some examples of their work are included in this report.

This report also includes examples of academic recognitions, grants and awards received by Elon faculty during the past academic year.

We take great pride in the achievements of Elon scholars and their quests to contribute to the greater good. I hope you are as inspired as I am with their stories.

Leo M. Lambert
