Planning for summer classes

The schedule of classes for Summer 2018 is now available. Students can search and register for available courses any time between now and June. Summer College offers students the chance to catch up or get ahead, repeat a course for a better grade or take a course online from anywhere in the country. If you have any questions about Summer College, please call 336-278-6670.

Moving out: on- and off-campus information

To ensure a smooth move-out process for summer, please review the following information.

Residence halls will close Wednesday, May 16, at 10 a.m. and on-campus apartments will close Thursday, May 31, at 10 a.m. Students should pack and be ready to move all of their belongings before those dates. Late checkouts can be accommodated in certain residential neighborhoods up to two days after halls close. To arrange a late checkout, students must contact the neighborhood office in advance of the official move-out date. All other students will receive information from their residence life student staff member about scheduling a time to return keys, complete room inspections and check out. To avoid damage charges, it is important for students to review the residence life website and understand damage billing policies.

Elon partners with several nonprofit agencies to accept donations of student goods for reuse and repurposing. The Town of Elon places additional dumpsters around town for students who live off campus to deposit extra trash and debris during the move-out process. Students who live off campus will want to check with their landlords regarding move-out processes and property condition expectations to avoid charges and fines. Students will receive additional information about the move-out process in early May.

Graduating international students to plant saplings on South Campus

International students from the Class of 2018 will have the opportunity to plant their oak saplings on Elon’s South Campus, continuing a new tradition started with the Class of 2017. These students are not able to take their saplings back to their home countries due to customs restrictions. The planting date for this year’s graduating class of international students is May 17.

Summer at Elon

Residence Life provides on-campus housing for students taking summer session courses. Students enrolled in summer classes who wish to live on campus should complete the application by May 7. Students who plan to stay at Elon over the summer months will also want to be aware of resources available to them for food, fitness and fun.

The first summer at home

If your student just completed their first year of college, the homecoming and stay over the course of the summer have the potential to arouse varying emotions and changes in every family member. Your student has created a lifestyle of their own that may not follow the same rules you established before they moved away. By communicating and compromising together, your family can have a happy household this summer.

Important Mail Services information

Please find some information below about summer mailing for returning students as well as for graduating students. Every student should fill out this form letting us know if they would like their mail temporarily or permanently forwarded, or if they will be here this summer and would like to still receive their mail. All previously received mail and packages will be returned to sender if we have not heard from the student by May 18. Please note the following:
  • Forwarding mail and packages from the Elon University Mail Services operation is not an option—this must be done via the USPS website.
  • It is very important that you change your address with your bank, credit cards, cell phone provider, magazines and other important places of business to ensure you receive your mail and packages after the semester ends.
  • You are strongly encouraged to begin this process as soon as possible, as some companies can take 4-6 weeks to process an address change.
  • Graduating seniors have 30 days to update their mailing address after the end of the academic year. Please keep in mind that it may take up to 2 weeks for USPS to update their system.
Questions? Contact Mail Services at 336-278-5433 or email cbozeman@elon.edu.

Elon Dining

It's the final hour with Elon Dining! Finish off the year with antioxidants, coffee and peace of mind. Tell your students to take a break from their studies and join us for food and fun on May 2. Students can join our dietician to learn how important it is to maintain a balance during stressful times on May 8. Coffee will be offered on us in the library during exams for the students studying hard! Finally, we will be setting up tables to assist students with next year’s meal plan starting April 17. Sign up and relax—it’s taken care of!

New Student & Transition Programs

This spring, 20 students completed the Life Entrepreneur Program, a sophomore experience designed to help students explore their passions and values, become alert to opportunities and align their strength and goals in a meaningful way. NSTP also sent New Student Orientation Head Staff to a regional conference in March to present educational sessions and represent Elon school spirit. Orientation is in the midst of training 125 fantastic Orientation Leaders to welcome new students to campus in August. Orientation is also recruiting volunteers for O-Team, a group of students who assist new and continuing students in their residential neighborhoods on Move-In Day. In just a few short months, we will also be welcoming the Global Pathfinders to their summer orientation program. This is a group of 20 new students who will start their Elon journey studying at University College in Dublin, Ireland.

Student Professional Development Center updates

The SPDC welcomes students to visit with a career advisor this spring. Students can make an appointment by calling 336-278-6538, or they can stop by during drop-in hours, which are posted on the SPDC website. Remind your student that it is not too late to make a plan.

This spring, the SPDC hosted a variety of successful recruitment events, including the Sales Meet and Greet, Job and Internship Expo, Teacher Fair and a new event called B the Change: Benefit Corporations as a Force for Good in the World. The SPDC also hosted a record number of on-campus interviews and, while formal interviews are winding down, many employers are still hiring. If your student still needs a job or internship, please encourage them to visit the SPDC and apply for opportunities on the Elon Job Network. Also, visit and join The Elon Network on LinkedIn.

Student Involvement

Student Involvement provides over 75 student-centered programs and events a semester, including concerts, comedians, trips to sporting and cultural events, movies and tailgates. In addition, Student Involvement serves as the starting point for new organizations and guides new student leaders through the development process. The CONNECTions Team, a group of student leaders located in the Moseley Student Center, can also assist students one-on-one in identifying meaningful involvement opportunities across campus. For a list of active student organizations and upcoming campus events, please visit PhoenixCONNECT.
