Brief Biography

Dr. C. Kim Stokes joined the faculty at Elon PA in January 2021 as the Program Director/Chair. Prior to coming to Elon, she spent almost nine years of academic experience in both didactic and clinical education at East Carolina University where she was Director of Clinical Education.. Dr. Stokes has taught courses in professional practice, women's health, clinical medicine, and surgery.

A native of the NC Blue Ridge Mountains, she received her undergraduate degree in Biology from Lenoir-Rhyne University, physician assistant studies from East Carolina University, master's degree from Duke University, and completed a Doctor of Medical Science with a concentration in PA Education from the University of Lynchburg. Her clinical background has been in primary care, surgical oncology, and telemedicine.

Dr. Stokes enjoys interprofessional education and practice, active learning, and "all things rural". She also has experience in leading interprofessional global health teams internationally and hopes to continue this work. Most of all, she enjoys time spent with family and close friends, including her spouse and daughters.

Current Projects

Confronting Bias in the Clinical Learning Environment

Classroom-based initiative to prepare learners to interrupt bias they may find in their training spaces. Collaboration with Dr. Morolake Laoshebikan-Buggs (Inclusive Excellence)

Professional Identity Formation

Interprofessional learning activity to address understanding one's own values and how these intersect with others in the healthcare team, despite "role" in the team. Collaboration with an interprofessional team at Elon University, specifically, Dr. Tiffany Morris (Nursing).

HRSA Physician Assistan Primary Care Training Enhancement Grant awarded by the US Department of Health and Human Services in the amount of $1.2 million to improve primary care training in rural areas (and talent retainment), address opioid use disorder management in rural areas, provide collaborative care (integrated behavioral health) and address burnout in rural medical providers.2020-2021

Stokes CK Helping Hondurans Help Hondurans: 2020 Interprofessional Global Health Experience grant from the AAPA PA Foundation in the amounts of $8,000 to support the ongoing mission of global health in Taulabe, Honduras including medical supplies and staffing of several medical brigades. 2019-2020.
