Brief Biography
Dr. Mary C. (Mary Kay) Hannah graduated from the US Army-Baylor University Graduate Program in Physical Therapy with Masters in Physical Therapy in 2001 and later earned her Doctorate in Physical Therapy through Baylor University. She practiced physical therapy as an Army therapist at Walter Reed Army Medical Center, Womack Army Medical Center at Fort Bragg, and with the 82nd Airborne Division in Afghanistan. After retiring from 23 years in the Army, she practiced orthopedic and sports private practice in Apex, North Carolina from 2010-2017. Dr. Hannah is a Board Certified Clinical Specialist in Sports Physical Therapy (SCS) since 2009 and Orthopedic Physical Therapy (OCS) since 2014. After serving as an adjunct instructor at Elon in various capacities from 2012-2016, she joined the Elon DPT program as full-time faculty in the musculoskeletal curriculum at Elon University in March 2017.
She also teaches CEU courses on dry needling for physical therapists with Double E Education LLC, has served as a Delegate to the APTA's House of Delegates since 2011, and currently serves as the President of the American Physical Therapy Association North Carolina (APTA NC). In October 2013, she was awarded the APTA NC's 2013 Outstanding Physical Therapist Award; awarded the the Olive V. Wortman Service Award and the President's Award in 2015; and awarded the Darlene Sekerak Legislative Service Award in 2018. In September 2015, Dr. Hannah was presented the State Legislative Advocacy Award by the APTA at the Policy & Payment Forum in Denver, Colorado for years of ongoing work to update the PT practice act in North Carolina. After the bill finally passed in June 2019, Dr. Hannah received a special Legislative Advocacy award from the APTA NC.
