Brief Biography
Pronouns: she/her/hers
I have been a part of the Counseling Services team at Elon since 2012. I began my Elon career serving as a staff counselor before being promoted to assistant director in 2017. I was appointed to the role of director of Counseling Services in 2021. I am a proud first-generation college graduate. I earned a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology, as well as dual degrees of Master of Education and Education Specialist in Counselor Education, with a concentration in Clinical Mental Health Counseling, all from the University of Virginia. I have practiced as a licensed clinical mental health provider since 2006 and am currently a Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor Supervisor. I have accrued clinical experience in a range of community and educational settings including providing services to children, adolescents, and families in intensive-in home and school-based mental health settings, in addition to addressing student mental health and disability accommodation needs in a prior collegiate setting. I have found working with college students to be my niche and passion. I approach my work with students with appreciation of the unique opportunities and challenges associated with this pivotal developmental phase. My work emphasizes developing self-awareness, learning, and building resilience to empower students to work towards healing and personal growth. I use an integrative approach with heavy leanings toward person-center therapy, cognitive-behavior therapy (CBT), and dialectical-behavioral therapy (DBT) interwoven with principles of mindfulness. Outside of Elon, I enjoy time with my husband and our children, traveling to explore new places through food and new experiences, or kicking back with a favorite TV show to suspenseful movie.
