Brief Biography
Callie Kelly began her career in community-based prevention in 1997 and joined Elon University in 2016, where she currently works in the Department of Health Promotion advancing student well-being and substance use prevention. Her work is grounded in public health and focuses on reducing substance-related harm, strengthening protective factors, and supporting students across the continuum from prevention through recovery.
She helped establish Phoenix Free, Elon’s Collegiate Recovery Program, and continues to support the substance-free living learning community. Her work also includes brief intervention and behavior change strategies, using motivational interviewing and the BASICS model to help students reflect on choices, reduce risk, and make informed decisions. Known for her collaborative approach, Callie works across campus and community partners to expand access to practical, student-centered education and support resources.
Callie holds a Master of Public Health from the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health and is both a Certified Health Education Specialist and Certified Prevention Specialist. She remains actively engaged in state and national efforts to strengthen prevention, harm reduction, and recovery systems and is passionate about mentoring students and emerging professionals.
