Brief Biography
Jonathan Su, associate professor of engineering, holds a BS in Mechanical Engineering from Stanford University, a M.Eng. in Mechanical Engineering (Bioengineering certificate) from Cornell University, and a PhD in Mechanical Engineering/Materials Science from Duke University (Center for Biologically Inspired Materials and Material Systems), with additional postdoctoral training in the biomedical engineering department at Northwestern University. As an expert in mass transport, his research has focused on physical and surface chemistry which examined transport of molecules through surfaces, membranes, and films. Additionally, he has worked on a variety of topics involving drug delivery for women’s health and HIV prevention, including development of a long-acting implant, vaginal rings, and vaginal fluid simulants. His research with students has covered an array of topics including development of a pulse oximeter with integrated skin color sensing, mechanical testing of biodegradable implants, holographic imaging for bacterial detection, and preservation and testing of natural dyes. He also listed as a faculty member in biochemistry.
