Brief Biography
A New York native, Mitchel received his MFA from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro in 1976. After years of professional acting in New York City, dinner theatres, tours, cruises ships and a 2 year stint on Ryan's Hope, he returned to Greensboro in 1989 to become Community Theatre of Greensboro’s Executive Director, a position he treasured for 27 years. Mitchel has performed in a host of productions across the Triad and has directed many CTG and Barn Dinner Theatre shows over the years including West Side Story, Fiddler On The Roof, A Raisin in the Sun, Inherit the Wind, The Sunshine Boys, Hairspray and Amadeus . Mitchel has also directed CTG’s annual production of The Wizard of Oz for 27 years! As one of the most visible arts champions in our community, Mitchel was recognized by the United Arts Council in 2005, when he received the Betty Cone Medal of Arts. Most recently, he served as Interim Executive Director for Triad Stage, leading the charge for its reopening after a two year pandemic shut down. The proud dad of Erik and Devon, Mitchel is the Cantorial Soloist at Temple Emanuel in Greensboro. When not wearing his many hats, he can found on the beach on Oak Island eating M&M peanuts and drinking diet coke!!
