Brief Biography

Dr. Patrick Noltemeyer serves as Chief of Staff and Secretary to the Board of Trustees at Elon University.  A native of Louisville, Kentucky, Patrick received his Bachelor of Science degree from Centre College in 2001, where he studied Psychology and Sociology. As an undergraduate, Patrick was involved in community service including work with the Vice Presidential Debate held on campus in 2000.

Following Centre, Patrick worked in residence life at the University of Kentucky (UK), and as a graduate apprentice at Georgetown College while completing his master’s degree in college student personnel services at UK. In 2004, Patrick returned to Centre College as the Director of Greek Life in the Student Life Office. In this role he advised Centre’s fraternities and sororities before taking the lead on Centre’s service and civic engagement initiatives as the Director of Volunteer Service and the Bonner Scholars Program. In this work, Patrick facilitated opportunities for students to volunteer with non-profit agencies, government agencies and primary schools in the local area. Patrick also cultivated a positive relationship with the Bonner Foundation in Princeton, NJ, and was part of a team that secured a multi-million endowment to support the Bonner Scholars Program and student engagement at Centre in perpetuity. As an Associate Dean of Students, Patrick provided guidance and supervision for multiple staff members in the Student Life Office, chaired numerous committees, working groups, and was elected president of the college’s Staff Congress. In this role, Patrick had the opportunity to coordinate several state-wide civic engagement opportunities, including gubernatorial and other candidate debates.

Patrick joined Dr. John Roush in the Centre College President’s Office in 2013, facilitating a variety of projects and committees, serving as the College’s institutional researcher, special events coordinator, and, in 2015, the College’s chief planning officer.  In this role, Patrick was responsible for working with the Board of Trustees and the college’s senior leadership to identify strategic initiatives to advance the mission of the college. Working closely with the Chief Financial Officer and an array of campus constituents and off-campus partners, Patrick facilitated the development of a robust campus master plan, the key elements of which are currently under construction. In 2018, Patrick was selected as co-chair of the College’s the Bicentennial Committee, charged with planning activities to celebrate the 200th anniversary of the College’s founding.

While working the President’s Office at Centre, Patrick completed his doctoral studies at the University of Louisville and received his Ph.D. in higher education in 2014. His dissertation focused on factors affecting employee motivation and job satisfaction.

In 2019, Patrick joined the senior administration and Dr. Connie Book, President of Elon University, as Chief of Staff and Secretary to the Board of Trustees. In this role, Patrick coordinates the day-to-day initiatives of President Book and the Office of the President, provides support and guidance for the work of members of the senior administration, communicates with on- and off-campus constituents on behalf of the president, manages crisis situations with a dedicated team of campus professionals, and serves as the university’s chief liaison to the Board of Trustees.
