Summer and fall advising and registration

Summer and fall course registration for current students will begin online Tuesday, April 12. All students must meet with their assigned advisor and receive approval from their advisor to access the registration system. Encourage your student to use the advising tools available to effectively prepare for advising appointments. Students should refer to their four-year graduation plans as well as the academic catalog, their degree audit in OnTrack and major/minor check sheets to determine what courses to select for the upcoming summer and/or fall term. Utilizing these tools prior to advising appointments will allow time for students to discuss Experiential Learning Requirements (ELR) such as internships, study abroad, service-learning and other co-curricular opportunities with their advisor.

Planning for summer classes and transfer credit information

Elon will offer 144 courses in Summer College 2016. Summer College is helpful to students who are pursuing a double major or two degrees. Students who plan to take courses at another institution must complete the Request to Transfer Credit Form from the Registrar's Office for that class to transfer back to Elon. Prior to completing the form, students are encouraged to discuss their plans during their advising appointments. Students may research potential transfer courses by referring to the transfer equivalency table of courses accepted from other institutions.

Moving out: on- and off-campus information

Moving out for summer
To ensure a smooth move-out process for summer, please review the following information. Residence halls will close Wednesday, May 18, at 10 a.m. and on-campus apartments will close Tuesday, May 31, at 10 a.m. Students should pack and be ready to move all of their belongings before those dates. Late checkouts can be accommodated in certain residential neighborhoods up to two days after halls close. To do so, students must contact the neighborhood office in advance of the official move-out dates. All other students will receive information from their resident advisors (RA) about scheduling a time to return keys, complete room inspections and check out. In order to avoid damage charges, it is important for students to review the residence life website and understand damage billing policies. Elon partners with several non-profit agencies to accept donations of student goods for reuse and repurposing. The Town of Elon places additional dumpsters around town for students who live off campus to deposit extra trash and debris during the move-out process. Students who live off campus will want to check with their landlords regarding move-out processes and property condition expectations to avoid charges and fines. Students will receive information about these programs in early May.

The first summer home

With your student away from home for their first year of college, the homecoming and longer stay over the course of the summer have the potential to arouse varying emotions and changes in every family member. Your student has created a lifestyle of their own that may not follow the same rules that you established before they moved away. By communicating and compromising together, your family can have a happy household this summer.

Senior year: planning and transitions

Graduation caps

In a few weeks, more than 1,350 undergraduates will cross the stage for the 126th Commencement - what a proud moment for students, family and friends! The week after Commencement, the Registrar's Office will prepare for the Class of 2017's senior year. Students who plan to graduate in May 2017 must apply for graduation during the summer and fall of their senior year. Once the application is complete and has been submitted, the student must schedule an appointment for an official graduation audit. Students and families alike may experience some tension and stress as a student transitions into their senior year.

Student Professional Development Center updates

Many students have shared their summer internship, job and graduate school plans. Members of the Class of 2016 have reported accepting offers with employers such as Amazon, Conde Nast, Goldman Sachs, Pepsi-Cola, Teach for America, Wells Fargo and many more. Students have also reported plans to pursue graduate programs at institutions like University of Virginia, George Washington University and University of Maryland. Students who do not have summer or post-graduate plans should check Elon Job Network often for new opportunities and consider making an appointment with a career advisor. Career advising appointments are also available during the summer. With internship registration closing soon, students interested in receiving credit should contact their respective internship director before securing an internship. In addition, campus recruitment will begin on the first day of the fall semester. Finance and accounting majors should have their resumes updated over the summer and expect to apply, interview and consider internship or job offers in September and October. We have seen a trend that regardless of major or industry, employers are recruiting students earlier in the fall semester.
