"This minor has an array of classes that
add another perspective to this world. Often times, we get
stuck in our own perspective that we forget what other
perspectives are out there. I chose to minor in WGS because
it was another perspective for me to examine."
"A minor in W/GS helps you to understand every
discipline in a completely new way. Looking through the lens
of gender helps you see perspectives of International
Relations, Psychology, even Business and Economics, that have
often been ignored or marginalized. It makes study so much
more inclusive and meaningful when you understand the ways in
which gender have influenced scholarship."
"I chose to minor in W/GS because it seemed to relate
really well with my major, sociology. The first W/GS class I
took was listed as a sociology course (Women, culture, and
the World) and I found myself really interested in learning
about women in other cultures. After that, I decided to take
another W/GS class that was more related to women in the
United States and their body image, personal experiences,
etc. (That class was called The Politics of Beauty, with
Prof. Cahill.) After those two classes, I decided that the
subject really interested me and I wanted to learn more, so I
became a minor!"
"I minored in Women's/Gender Studies, because I
found the women's suffrage movement incredibly
fascinating. Usually college students hate waking up for
their 8 a.m. classes, but I loved going to my WGS classes
everyday. I think it is the best minor at Elon and I hope one
day it will become a major."
