Spring 2011 Events The Vagina Monologues, co-sponsored with EFFECT. February 14, 6:30 and 9pm, with a reception in between the two performances. Feminist Scholarship Display, Belk Library, March 14-25th. Celebrate Women's History Month by exploring this display of feminist research by Elon faculty and staff. College Coffee, March 15, 9:40-10:20am, Phi Beta Kappa Commons (weather permitting). Elon recently joined the American Association of University Women! Come to this College Coffee to find out what this could mean for you (and pick up some WGS goodies!). "Preposterous Propositions: report from the frontier of contemporary art", Linda Weintraub, LaRose Digital Theater, KOBC, March 17, 6pm. Co-sponsored with Environmental Studies, this talk addresses the imaginative and often preposterous (in a productive sense) responses artists have made to current environmental problems as an approach to drawing attention to or resolving them. Lunch with Dr. Victoria Bergvall, Ward Octagon, 12:30-2pm, April 7. Meet, dine, and interact with Dr. Bergvall, Associate Professor of Linguistics at Michigan Technological University. Bergvall's research includes studies of gender and language, and she is past president of the International Gender and Language Association. Film Screening of Shirin Neshat's Women Without Men, McEwen 011, 6-9pm, April 11. Groundbreaking Iranian-born visual artist Shirin Neshat, widely known in the contemporary art world for her photographic and video works, recently created this feature film adapted from the novel of the same name by Shahmush Parsipur. The film raises issues about gender, politics, and religion in both 1950s Tehran and our current context. "Rethinking the Domestic, Rethinking the Carnal, Rethinking Women." Isabella Cannon Room, April 19, 7pm. Elon Professors and WGS members Ann Cahill (Philosophy) and Kirstin Ringelberg (Art History) will discuss their recent book publications. Refreshments will be served. WGS Senior Banquet, Isabella Cannon Gallery, Center for the Arts, May 4, 5:30-7:30pm. WGS minors and committee members will meet to celebrate our graduating seniors.
