Periclean Scholars Class of 2010

The Periclean Scholars program is part of Project Pericles, a program dedicated to promoting social responsibility and service learning throughout the Elon community. The 32-member Periclean Scholars Class of 2010 works to promote awareness of social and environmental issues in Ghana and Africa through presentations, cultural events, research and publication; support socioeconomic development in Ghana’s Volta region (southeast Ghana) through partnerships with local communities to construct or expand healthcare and educational facilities as well as with Heifer International to support beekeeping and the rearing of “grasscutters” (small mammals which are a delicacy); and provide direct aid and tutoring service to African refugees in the Greensboro area.
