Guidelines for Political Activities
Elon University encourages civic engagement and active participation in the process of democracy, which are central to the mission of preparing graduates who are “global citizens and informed leaders motivated by a concern for the common good.” We emphasize our responsibility to live in community, acknowledging our interdependency with others. We believe that civic engagement necessitates political involvement and active participation in democratic decision-making.
University Guidelines for Demonstrations
Elon University encourages open, on-going intellectual engagement and debate through civil, mutually respectful interactions that preserve the openness of public dialogue and debate. An environment that encourages diverse views and the free exchange of ideas is vital to the Elon University mission. Therefore, Elon ensures that members of the university community (students, faculty, and staff) may assemble peacefully, express their ideas freely, and demonstrate their concerns collectively by orderly means. All forms of speech/protest must not interfere with the normal operations of the University and must adhere to all applicable University policies and laws.
Commitment to the Values of Freedom of Expression and Inclusivity
Elon University encourages open, ongoing intellectual engagement and debate through mutually respectful interactions that preserve the openness of public dialogue, animate the academic freedom central to the enterprise of higher education, appreciate human dignity and difference, and reflect the shared tenets of honor codes that guide good practice across colleges and universities. Elon’s mission highlights both freedom of expression and inclusion as cornerstones of a dynamic academic community, and as necessary for holistic student development in a student- and learning-centered educational environment.
