Board of Trustees endows new Trustees Distinguished University Professor in Undergraduate Teaching

The Elon University Board of Trustees announced on April 12, 2022 the creation of a new endowed professorship to recognize and promote undergraduate teaching excellence at the university. The investment by the Board of Trustees in endowing the professorship follows Elon’s recognition in the fall by U.S. News & World Report as the #1 institution nationally for undergraduate teaching excellence. At a campus gathering, Board Chair Ed Moriarty shared that the trustees have established the new Trustees Distinguished University Professor in Undergraduate Teaching to recognize an Elon faculty member for excellence in teaching. Board of Trustees Statement on Diversity, Equity and Inclusion

The Elon University Board of Trustees is determined to have all members of the Elon Community flourish, enabling all to thrive and achieve their unique potential. The Board over many years has and will continue to be fully engaged and actively supportive of initiatives aimed at creating a more diverse, inclusive and equitable community for all. Ongoing and future efforts will build upon and accelerate the progress achieved through the Elon Commitment and the new Boldly Elon strategic plans. We have built a better Elon through successful initiatives such as the Odyssey Program; the Center for Access and Success; the Center for Race, Ethnicity and Diversity Education; the Truitt Center for Religious and Spiritual Life; the Gender & LGBTQIA Center; the Kernodle Center for Civic Life; and sustained efforts to recruit students, faculty and staff of color. Still, we understand there is always more work to be done by individuals and the university, supported by the context provided by the Committee on History and Memory.

The Board of Trustees calls on all members of the Elon family to join this drive to fully embrace this important and continuing mission.
