Brief Biography
Dr. Brittany Mercado is an Associate Professor and Chair of the Management and Entrepreneurship Department in the Love School of Business at Elon University. She studies employee performance...and the lack thereof. She has spent over a decade investigating who engages in counterproductive work behaviors—ranging from slacking off to violence and harassment—as well as why and how they do it. Lately, Dr. Mercado has focused on employee counterproductivity using information and communications technology (e.g., cyberloafing) and assessing employee behavior. In her applied work, she has supported organizations’ personnel selection and employee assessment efforts, most notably with the development, adaptation, and validation of pre-employment inventories and performance measures. Her work crosses international borders, with her consulting efforts targeting employees and organizations in Mexico, Germany, Turkey, Japan, China, South Korea, South Africa, and the U.S. Her research has been published in peer-reviewed journals and frequently presented at international conferences, including the Society for Industrial and Organizational Psychology and Academy of Management. She holds a Ph.D. in Management from the Zicklin School of Business at Baruch College-CUNY, an International M.B.A. from Florida International University, and SHRM-SCP certification from the Society for Human Resource Management.
