Sixty-one students inducted into Phi Eta Sigma at Elon College

ELON COLLEGE – Sixty-one students recently were inducted into Phi Eta Sigma at Elon College.

Two faculty members – Kyle Torke, assistant professor of English and Jane Wellford, assistant professor of performing arts – were inducted as honorary members during the Dec. 6 ceremony.

Phi Eta Sigma was organized in 1923 at the University of Illinois and has more than 290 chapters throughout the United States.

As a national college and scholastic honor society for freshmen, Phi Eta Sigma encourages and rewards high scholastic attainment in institutions of higher learning. The students who were inducted earned cumulative grade point averages during their freshman year in 1997/98 academic year 1997/98 in the range of 3.7 to 4.0
