Husser spoke with ABC 45 after High Point's major Cyril Jefferson entered the race for the district.
Jason Husser, professor of political science and public policy, was recently interviewed by WXLV (ABC 45) about the 6th Congressional District race.
ABC 45 reports that High Point Mayor Cyril Jefferson is entering the race and will face incumbent Addison McDowell. If he wins, Jefferson would be the first Triad mayor to serve in Congress, according to ABC 45. ButHusser notes that it would be unexpected if a Democrat wins the seat following redistricting in 2020.
“North Carolina District 6 is one that I like to think of as the ‘center of Central North Carolina’, it is largely a rural district now, District 6 tends to have a republican lean to it, President Trump won it by about 17 points in 2024,” Husser said. “Candidates could change the narrative there, they could change this is to be a race really to be about personality, if a scandal emerges, or if one candidate is a particularly well-known candidate.”
