About the Elon Environmental Center at Loy Farm

Loy Farm was purchased by Elon University in 2000. It was used primarily for storage and biology classes until 2011, when the AgroEcology program was introduced, which increased opportunities for student engagement. By 2012, students had begun plowing, building deer fences, constructing a greenhouse and other activities that continue today. The farm is used by a variety of students as well as professors. Humanities, social science and natural science courses all utilize the farm as an instructional tool, and it hosts the research projects of both students and professors. In addition, the farm gives back to Elon University and the larger Burlington community as students, Mill Point Catering, Elon Campus Kitchen and Allied Churches use the food grown there.
