As a developmental and educational psychologist I am interested in the ways culturally-mediated experiences shape our thinking, including thinking about our own lives and our epistemological beliefs (beliefs about the nature of knowledge and learning). I am currently involved in research projects on the impact of life transitions on both college students and college faculty. I am also interested in the scholarship of teaching and learning, which examines the relationships between pedagogical strategies and student learning. I received B.A. and Ph.D. degrees in Psychology from the University of California at San Diego, and an M.A. in Learning Disabilities from Northwestern University. Since 1993 I have been teaching classes at Elon in general, developmental, and educational psychology.
