Hello! My name is Dr. Mary McManamy and I am the Chair of the GSK Women in Science Scholars committee.

The North Carolina GlaxoSmithKline Foundation sponsors the GSK Women in Science Scholars Program, which offers a unique educational opportunity to young women by coupling scholarships with professional women scientists as mentors. The scholarships are endowed at 30 participating colleges and universities in North Carolina, including Elon University. The selection process includes a call for self-nominations, essay submissions, and finalist interviews by the Committee.

Each scholarship recipient is paired with a professional GlaxoSmithKline female volunteer mentor who provides insight to her scholar by sharing her experiences and successes and can help students set realistic expectations for their own career paths.

The North Carolina GlaxoSmithKline Foundation hosts two annual events in North Carolina for the Women in Science Scholars: an annual meeting in October and a conference in the spring designed for networking, learning, and sharing. Two renewable scholarships of $2,150 are being awarded to outstanding women science majors at Elon University for the 2020-2021 academic year.

I am pleased to announce that the new GSK scholars are Ons Bouali and Samantha Eastman. Congratulations to you both!
