Alexa Darby, Professor of Psychology

Hi, I am Alexa Darby, Professor of Psychology. I have the honor today to present the The Katharine duPont Weymouth Scholarship in honor of alumnus Frank Lyon, class of ’71. The scholarship is awarded to an outstanding student majoring in the social sciences, whose scholarly work meaningfully engages a social science question and/or methodology.

It is my pleasure today to introduce Lauren Willingham, a psychology student, in her junior year. Lauren and I have been working together for the past two years. Over the summer we had the pleasure of being able to focus our energy on research. We looked at specifically how community partners and faculty members were defining reciprocity in service-learning. From that collaboration we were able to draft and submit two publications, one of which has been accepted and the other is currently under review.

We continued our work in the fall and looked at faculty memorable experiences of students in service-learning. This paper is also under review.

Besides being very productive and diligent, Lauren is a pleasure to be around. She is so humble and so kind. She is one of the best students I have had in 16 years. It is my honor and pleasure to introduce this to Lauren Willingham.
