Faculty can pursue customized pathways to tenure, continuance, and promotion while being attentive to first-level criterion for evaluation (teaching) and second-level criteria (professional activity and contributions to the life of the university), as illustrated below and on the sample pathways pages.

The examples below and in the sample pathways are not intended to be prescriptive or exhaustive, but rather to spark further thinking about ways one might strategically and intentionally align work across different areas of responsibility. The professional activity categories draw from Boyer’s (1990) model of scholarship, summarized briefly on the professional activity page.
