Success Coaching for Retention
Academic Coaching and Tutoring:
Elon offers a range of success coaching and consultation options. Below are a few options that can be used to support students in need of general academic or personal support at Elon:
- Peer Success Coaching: Elon offers free, academically-focused peer success coaching to all students through Learning Assistance. Peer coaches help students build skills applicable to any course including time management, organization, study strategies, note-taking, etc. Students can schedule a session with a Peer Success Coach on the Learning Assistance website.
- Academic Tutoring and Learning Assistance: Learning Assistance offers free one-on-one tutoring, drop-in support, and scheduled group study sessions to help students strengthen their understanding, build confidence, and achieve achieve their academic goals. Students can use these sessions to stay on track, prepare for an exam, or deepen their learning. Sessions are available throughout the week. Wellness and Wellbeing Coaching:
Elon’s support for student wellness is embodied in HealthEU. Below are just a few of the many options providing coaching for student wellbeing:
- Student Care and Outreach: Student Care and Outreach is at the heart of Elon University’s care, support, and connection efforts. Their office collaborates with campus and community partners to provide outreach and support networks for students experiencing significant and complex challenges affecting their dimensions of well-being. Support efforts include coordinating individualized, one-on-one developmental meetings with students focusing on resource education and connection, personal self-reflection, and empowerment in navigating obstacles.
- Student Involvement Ambassadors: Student Involvement Ambassadors help students get connected to the many opportunities and events in the Elon community. This team of student leaders serves as an extension of Student Involvement and assists students 1:1 in getting connected and involved on campus year-round! - Counseling and TimelyCare: Elon provides free, on-campus clinical mental health services for students. Services include an initial clinical assessment, group and individual therapy, skill-based workshops, support groups, and referrals for community support and psychiatric services.In addition to Elon’s on-sight medical or mental health care, Elon provides free, 24/7 access to virtual medical and mental health services through the TimelyCare app. Students using TimelyCare have enhanced access to medical appointments, scheduled Counseling, psychiatry (by referral) and health coaching services.
Career and Major Coaching:
Elon offers a range of coaching opportunities for Career and Major selection:
- Student Professional Development Center: Elon’s SPDC offers individualized coaching for students seeking direction in their career choice. Students can schedule meetings to review major and career options and discuss next steps for a given career. Students can schedule meetings using Elon’s Job Network (Choose “Appointments” once logged in).
- Elon Q & A: Students can ask questions of alumni regarding any possible career questions they may have. Students pose a question which is reviewed and responded to by several alumni. Students can then connect individually as needed.
- Exploring Majors Class (ELN 1110): Elon offers an exploring majors class, designed to investigate and narrow the student’s career options. Students with individually and collectively with an instructor to work through their options over the course of a semester.
Success Coaching for Retention and Student Success:
Our office seeks out students with the highest need to offer support and a pathway to success. We work with each student individually to define their personal goals and provide individualized follow-up and personalized support to meet their needs. We collaborate intensely with other offices while encouraging students to find their own path to success.
