Student Success & Retention

The Office of Student Success & Retention is responsible for coordinating the university’s retention and graduation success strategies. Our office collaborates across campus to understand factors influencing current student retention and persistence to graduation and to develop targeted initiatives to empower students to succeed.

Our Mission

The Office of Student Success & Retention aims to enhance Elon’s student retention and persistence to graduation through data-informed techniques that create understanding, pathways to success and retention, and that enhance the culture of care at Elon.  Our office is committed to enhancing each student’s holistic academic, social, and personal success through proactive outreach and relationship-driven collaboration with students, faculty, and staff.

Programs & Services

Our Student Success Coaches offers a range of direct resources and support designed to support students and their success at Elon.   Some of our programs and services include:

  • Success Coaching for students with the highest level of need.  Our office seeks out students in need of direct support and offers a pathway to success – academically, socially and personally – to ensure they have every opportunity to graduate from Elon.
  • Access to the Student Success Dashboard for advisors and others in a student’s Success Network, allowing members to gain a holistic understanding of their student’s needs and offer individualized suggestions for support.
  • Individualized support for student completing the Transition and Wellness Survey prior to matriculation.  Students taking this survey receive tailored responses and individualized follow-up (as needed) to support their transition o Elon.
  • Dedicated outreach and support for first-year students completing the First-Year Check-In.  All first-year students take the check-in at the week mark, which allows for individualized feedback and support from their advisor and outreach from other offices based on their needs.
  • Institutional assessment related to retention and student success.  Our office works individually with departments and units to collect and share retention-focused data that supports students’ success.  Please contact us at studentsuccess@elon.edu to collaborate.
