Brief Biography

Barbara Miller Gaither teaches courses in strategic communication, environmental communication, public relations and mass communication.  She has written and co-authored articles in public relations and communication journals including the Journal of Advertising, Journal of Public Relations Research, Journal of Mass Communication Quarterly, Journal of Computer-Mediated Communication, Mass Communication and Society, PR Review, Social Marketing Quarterly, Journal of Brand Management, and Risk Analysis.  She has authored a book on the implications of business and industry and advocacy on environmental efforts and public policy (Cambria) and has published book chapters on science and environmental communication, corporate advocacy, and CSR.  In 2010, she received a grant from the Arthur W. Page Center for Integrity in Public Communications at Penn State University to study ethical environmental communications.  She has worked as an advertising account executive for a diversified client base, including industrial, athletic, medical, economic development, and tourism accounts.  She earned her Ph.D. in mass communication from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, where she was a Park Doctoral Fellow and was named the 2006 Outstanding Ph.D. Graduate.  She has a B.S. in journalism and a M.S. in journalism and integrated marketing communication from West Virginia University.
